Classic Moments...

During class we were discussing why we spend so much time on essay writing. As freshmen, my students don't think that they need to study English. They know everything, right? Well, thanks to one student, B., he put them all straight...

"I am 17 and a freshman in highschool. I certainly don't know everything."

Ha.

And for your brain hurting pleasure, an actual test answer...

"He wanted to send her to a school for musicians called comunism (sic)"

Oye. Do I teach them anything?

F-U-T-I-L-E

To prepare for our vocabulary tests, my students sit on their desks for a Spelling Bee sort of game...Going in order students are responsible for providing one letter, at the end of the word, the next student in line gives the definition.

The word was futile. The first two letters had already been said, G. was in line to say "t". Not paying attention, G. asked for a recap of the letters already said. I was frustrated with G. for not listening and said, with a little annoyance in my voice, F-U!
Ooops.

My face was red. Poor G. didn't know what hit him.

Welcome to the first year of teaching.
